Announcing the return of the Humanities Institute Makerspace! On select afternoons this academic year, 198 Hagerty Hall and the surrounding hallway space will be open for drop-in art-making.
The HI Makerspace is a drop-in, self-led art studio for the OSU community and beyond! Students, faculty, staff and members of the greater Columbus community are all invited to stop by 198 Hagerty and make something at your own pace. Each month will feature a different theme or set of materials, and we'll have general art supplies on hand so you can see where your creativity leads you.
This month, we interrupt our usual Makerspace schedule to celebrate American monsters during this special pop-up open studio to prepare for our folklore series on Ohio cryptids! Stop in to make an array of projects centered on Mothman, Grassman / Bigfoot, the Loveland Frogman and more! Moth headbands, moth ornaments, plus a few surprise cryptids and projects. More information coming soon!
Don't forget to check out our screening of The Mothman Prophesies (free tickets!) and our annual Hammond Lecture on the American Tradition with folklorist David Puglia. He's the author of North American Monsters: A Contemporary Legend Casebook, so we'll be talking about chupacabra, Ohio Grassman and more!
Remaining dates and themes for AU26 are as follows:
Friday, December 4: holiday and winter-themed papercrafts, including greeting cards, gift tags, garlands and more. Learn about the folkloric monsters of the winter season: Krampus, Frau Perchta, Yeti and more- plus other holiday and winter-themed projects with traditional (non monstrous) materials.
For more information, or if you are interested in co-hosting an upcoming afternoon makerspace in AU26 or SP27, email Megan Moriarty, Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Humanities Institute.
