Join us on a select Friday each month for a casual gathering with the humanities community. “What the….? Fridays” coffee chats are conceived as opportunities to gather and assess current conditions in an informal yet informed manner.

In the context of what's going on in the world, let’s take some time to share our understandings of big issues and brainstorm ideas for how to uphold the best values of our work.

For our February gathering, we'll explore what it means for the humanities to be “community engaged.” The Humanities Institute is launching "Humanities on Tap” this spring,  bringing our scholarship and creative practice to local bars and taverns. What better time to reflect on how and why we do this work? Given the community-engaged profile our affiliated centers cultivate and maintain, we should be mindful of the worry, fear, anger and frustration many are feeling right now—on campus and beyond. How do we effectively and ethically engage in community in this moment?

Coffee, tea and pastries will be served. This event is free, open to the public and welcoming to everyone.
