Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Please join us the second Friday of every month during the spring semester for a coffee and pastries event from 10 - 11:30 am in our suite for what we are calling “What the….? Fridays.” These are conceived as opportunities to gather and assess current conditions—whether frightening or reassuring—in an informal yet informed manner. We aim to have three of these events for the Spring 2024 semester: February 9th, March 8th, and April 12th, each from 10 - 11:30 am. Join us!

We’ll start by taking on questions of free speech, harmful speech, academic freedom, and academic responsibility. In the context of legislative attempts to constrain conversation in our classrooms and nationally organized efforts to oust academic leaders, let’s take some time with each other to share our understandings of these issues and ideas for how to uphold the best values of our work. No assigned reading, only a request to bring a sense of openness, a willingness to listen, along with your strongest commitments to our conversation space.

This event is free and open to the public.
