A Workshop with Pedro Pereira

To obtain pdfs of the readings to be discussed in this talk, contact Rebecca Haidt (haidt.1@osu.edu) or Pedro Pereira (pereira.37@osu.edu)

Pedro Pereira is Assistant Professor of Spanish and Portuguese.  He teaches a variety of courses on Portuguese, Brazilian and Lusophone African themes, with an emphasis on the formation of colonialist discourses and their legacies in contemporary postcolonial cultures, Portuguese and Brazilian fiction from the 19th- to the 21st-centuries, and literary and cultural relations between the Portuguese and the Spanish-speaking worlds.

Pereira recently concluded a book manuscript entitled Filósofos de trazer por casa: cenários da apropriação da filosofia em Almeida Garrett, Eça de Queirós e Machado de Assis and is currently working on a new book on the genesis and survival of exceptionalist discourses (such as lusotropicalism, Portuguese orientalism, and the so-called ‘Portuguese philosophy’ movement of the 1940’s) in Portuguese-speaking literatures and cultures. He has also published several articles in refereed journals in the US, Brazil and Portugal, on a variety of topics ranging from the genesis of lusotropicalist discourse, Portuguese orientalism, and Portuguese and Brazilian prose fiction.
