Peter Weller Film Series: "RoboCop"

Movie poster for "RoboCop"
Wed, April 1, 2026
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
180 Hagerty Hall

The CMRS film series is back this semester, partnered with the Humanities Institute! This semester, we're focusing on films starring Dr. Peter Weller. He'll be here for the 2026 Barbara A. Hanawalt Public Lecture, talking about connections between contemporary film and classical, medieval and Renaissance art. He'll also be here for a screening of Ivans XTC at Studio 35 Cinema and Drafthouse the next day.

On-campus movies will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights in 180 Hagerty Hall. All movies will be followed by a brief talk and Q+A. Pizza and refreshments will be served. These screenings in Hagerty Hall are free. All the screenings are open to all.

The screening on April 1 features RoboCop (1987). In dystopian Detroit, police officer Alex Murphy is brutally murdered by a gang and resurrected by Omni Consumer Products as RoboCop, a cyborg law enforcer. Programmed to uphold the law, he battles rampant crime while uncovering corruption within OCP. As fragments of his humanity resurface, Murphy seeks justice against his killers and the corporation exploiting him, ultimately confronting the tension between man and machine.

The Q+A will be led by Michael Kaplan, senior lecturer in the Department of Film, Media and Theatre Studies. He teaches Narrative Film Production and Cinema Editing Theory and Practice, and presented a paper on RoboCop at a Society for Film and Media Studies Conference.

Our last film of the semester is:

  • April 24 - Ivans XTC (2000). This screening will be held at Studio 35 Cinema and Drafthouse and will feature a Q+A with Peter Weller afterwards. Ticket information coming soon.
