The CMRS film series is back this semester, partnered with the Humanities Institute! This semester, we're focusing on films starring Dr. Peter Weller. He'll be here for the 2026 Barbara A. Hanawalt Public Lecture, talking about connections between contemporary film and classical, medieval and Renaissance art. He'll also be here for a screening of Ivans XTC at Studio 35 Cinema and Drafthouse the next day.
On-campus movies will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights in 180 Hagerty Hall. All movies will be followed by a brief talk and Q+A. Pizza and refreshments will be served. These screenings in Hagerty Hall are free. All the screenings are open to all.
This month features Naked Lunch (1991). Exterminator Bill Lee becomes addicted to bug powder, accidentally kills his wife and flees to the surreal North African port of Interzone. There, his typewriter morphs into a cockroach and he’s drawn into a bizarre conspiracy involving giant insects, shadowy agents and hallucinatory realities. Blending biography with William S. Burroughs’ fragmented novel, David Cronenberg crafts a paranoid, surrealist drama where addiction, writing and identity blur into a disturbing exploration of control and creativity.
The Q+A will be facilitated by Roger Beebe, Professor of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts.
This semester's remaining film schedule includes:
- April 1 - RoboCop (1987)
- April 24 - Ivans XTC (2000) (This screening will be held at Studio 35 and will feature a Q + A with Peter Weller afterwards.)
