This semester, the Humanities Institute is hosting a film series along with CMRS in anticipation of the upcoming visit with actor Dr. Peter Weller. He'll be here for the 2026 Barbara A. Hanawalt Public Lecture, talking about connections between contemporary film and classical, medieval and Renaissance art on April 23. He'll also be here for a screening of Ivans XTC at Studio 35 the next day.
Movies in this series will be at 7 pm on Wednesday nights in 180 Hagerty Hall. All movies will be followed by a brief talk and Q+A. Pizza and refreshments will be served. These screenings are free and are open to all.
This semester's remaining film schedule includes:
- March 11 - Naked Lunch (1991)
- April 1 - RoboCop (1987)
- April 24 - Ivan XTC. (2000) (This screening will be held at Studio 35 and will feature a Q + A with Peter Weller afterwards.)
This month features The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984). Buckaroo Banzai, a scientist, surgeon and rock star, develops a jet car that can pass through solid matter. He accidentally opens a gateway to the eighth dimension, unleashing a force of alien creatures who seek to dominate Earth. As tensions build, Buckaroo must prevent a catastrophic war and save humanity while simultaneously confronting personal loss and uncovering secrets tied to his past.
