Join the Humanities Institute for a special screening of The Mothman Prophesies. The curators from the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, will be present afterwards for a Q+A. Join us to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the initial mothman sightings in SE Ohio and West Virginia.
There will be a Humanities on Tap meet-and-greet preceding the movie from 6 to 6:45. Meet the curators of the Mothman Museum, get your refreshments and settle in for the night.
The Mothman Prophecies (2002) is a psychological supernatural thriller starring Richard Gere as John Klein, a Washington Post reporter who becomes obsessed with a series of bizarre events in Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio. The film, directed by Mark Pellington, is based on John Keel's 1975 book of the same name, about reports he recorded of strange sightings in West Virginia and southeast Ohio in 1966–1967. The movie is known for its unsettling atmosphere and focus on grief and paranoia, rather than direct horror,
