Matthew Feinberg is visiting assistant professor of Hispanic Studies and Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Oberlin College. His area of specialization is in the literatures and cultures of twentieth- and twenty-first century Spain. He is particularly interested in using the study of Spanish theater to explore the intersection of Literary Studies and Cultural Geography and highlight the ways that cultural products have very concrete material impacts on urban space. With the support of a Fulbright Research Grant, Professor Feinberg spent the 2011 academic year in Madrid preparing a manuscript that modifies the term “spectacle” used by Guy Debord in his critique of the mass media’s imbrications with capitalist modes of production. The work focuses primarily on the iconic, multicultural, and often-underserved neighborhood of Lavapiés, Madrid located in the Embajadores district of the capital.
Andy Woodmansee is a doctoral student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese specializing in Iberian Cultural and Literary Studies.
