In 2026, the OSU Humanities Institute will launch Humanities on Tap, a monthly series of community presentations that brings the humanities to life across Columbus. Each gathering offers an easygoing space to explore big ideas, hear fresh perspectives and connect with others. Led by local experts and storytellers, these talks make learning engaging, approachable and fun—perfect for curious minds throughout our community.
All "Humanities on Tap" events are free and open to all.
Grab a pint, learn songs, answer some trivia and immerse yourself in the singing traditions of Cornwall, Wales, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Ireland. Where does this music show up in movies, games and TV? How did it get lumped together into the "Celtic music" genre? Join us for a drink, and we'll think through it together! This talk will be presented by Nicholas Booker, PhD candidate in musicology and ethnomusicology.
This semester brings one more event in this series:
Friday, April 17: Alex Sallade, associated faculty in the School of Music, will present a talk on the music of video games. LevelOne Barcade (130 Hutchinson Ave, Columbus, OH 43235).
