Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

HI Makerspace: Gratitude Zines

Humanities Institute MakerSpace
November 20, 2025
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
198 Hagerty Hall

Announcing the launch of the Humanities Institute Makerspace! On select afternoons this academic year, 198 Hagerty Hall will be open for drop-in art-making. Led by a rotating list of co-sponsors, the maker space will offer projects and materials in a variety of media, with projects reflecting the content and interests of our centers and other humanities affiliates.

November will feature a zine workshop, co-hosted by the Folklore Student Association, and held after the monthly folklore lunch.

A zine (short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation, self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, often reproduced via photocopier. Zines are known for their DIY aesthetic and often focus on niche or countercultural topics. They can cover anything from art, music and politics to personal stories, mental health and identity.

In case you are stumped with picking a topic for your zine, FSA students will provide you with prompts to develop a zine based on gratitude or wherever your imagination takes you based on that theme.

Makerspace events are free, open to everyone and welcoming to all. No registration is required- drop in as you are able.

For more information, or if you are interested in co-hosting an upcoming Friday makerspace, email Megan Moriarty, Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Humanities Institute.
