Over the past decade, a diverse cadre of political activists and hackers has risen to the fore of Taiwanese politics, driving a wave of changes across government and society. Audrey Tang has been at the center of events throughout this period, first as a “hacktivist” and then as a government advisor, and currently in her role as Digital Minister in the administration of Republic of China President Tsai Ing-wen. In this panel event, Minister Tang joins us to discuss how Taiwan is pioneering the use of online tools to promote participation, accountability, and transparency in government and how tech-driven approaches to public policy have helped Taiwan in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
